This week we went further into Formative and Summative assessments, performance-based assessments and what effects does self-assessment have on student achievement. I had an opportunity to personally be involved in a summative assessment bu bing a proctor for the administration of Pennsylvania System of School Assessments (PSSA"s) in math. I learned and understand that formative assessments are Assessment FOR learning where you can make adjustments in the instructions so they understand it better. In a summative assessment, that is an Assessment OF learning where there is no chance for adjustment. You are assessing to see if they can demonstrate what they have learned through either a pen and paper test or a performance-based test. I read and understood that in a performance based test you must give the students the appropriate materials and they have time to actually complete the task. As far as self-assessing, I think that it gives the student a chance to see where they are at and how to reach their goals. When use peer help, they also develop interaction skills.
